Allison Smith | Associate Board Warrior, Foster & Volunteer

I’m Allison Smith and this is the story of why and how I became and MCP pack Member. In August of 2015 Marta posted a dog that needed foster. After a few glasses of wine I scrolled past her plea, stopped, and said yes I’m in! 7am the next morning Marta was at my door with Kobe. He was a sad case, we had to hand feed him and change his bandages multiple times a day. I wasn’t ready for it, but Marta showed up everyday with me. We cared for this puppy, who had been burned with battery acid from his neck to his tail. There were days I had to put a mirror to his nose to make sure he was breathing, he was that sick. Six weeks (and six pairs of shoes) later, he was able to become a happy loving being who was able to go on an meet his forever.

I knew from that point forward, my mission in life was to never see this abuse again. I wanted to dedicate my free time to help saving these creatures in need. It’s a mission I knew was Marta’s whole heart and I was captivated. I fostered dog after dog and became involved in all things MCP. We started a fundraising committee and put together events that were unmatched in the community. These events and efforts fuel so much joy and emotion, being able to raise money to help the most in need cases. The group we have created is unmatched and I can’t wait to see what we can do next! I’ve had close to 70 fosters come through my door, be it for an overnight stay or a few months.

Getting to know each of their personalities, letting them be who they are, and matching them the best forever is truly rewarding!
