We adopted our first rescue dog when I was just 14 years old. She was a crazy Cairn Terrier (appropriately named Taz) that we had to take home in her kennel because nobody was able to get her out without getting bitten!  Soon enough she became a loving, caring, fun & welcome addition to our family. This rescue was doing their best, but they didn't know much about the dogs except a little history maybe; for Taz, it was physical abuse & starvation. They all lived primarily in kennels with just a little outdoor time. Again, they were trying their best, and this is what their funding could allow them to do.

When I met Marta & was first introduced to MCP Rescue & Outreach, I realized that rescue could be such a different experience for adopters & animals. Being that MCP is 100% foster based, the dogs have time to decompress, and start pealing away at the layers of fear & distrust. The fosters get to know who the dog really is, making it so much easier to make sure they land in the right home, and most often they do. Each foster gets a team leader to guide them throughout this journey because it does take work. The beautiful thing about MCP is that everyone is in it together. Marta envisioned this different kind of rescue where  through teamwork, strength & perseverance, animals will no longer be adopted out in their cage while snarling & growling to a clueless family like my beloved Taz was when I was 14.  They won't be put into situations where fear is given free reign to take over. They will be given the time they need, they will be loved, allowed to decompress, and given time to ensure they go to the best forever home possible!
