MCP In the Community

Medical Mondays

It’s a big world out there and our circle of trust is very small. One of our favorite veterinarians, Dr. Mary Hannah has a mobile medical bus where, on Mondays she drives it over to our daycare partner, Pack Life in the West Town (Chicago), to plug in and we host what we call, Medical Mondays. The days are mostly filled with, but not limited to, our dogs in foster and our outreach cases. It’s another way to remain hands on with our dogs, and help create a less stressful, fear free environment for vetting.

Medical Mondays also provide an interactive approach to building relationships within our community. It allows us to help increase public awareness, and education of overall animal care, and ultimately the importance of spaying and neutering pets. Another key component of our outreach is that we are able to provide more than stationary care, but, in fact, mobile care in home, that involves meeting families and their pets in need of outreach services at the location where they are.

We even host surgery days when needed. Dogs in their Forever Homes are also welcome to book appointments on Mondays and receive an MCP discount. Dr. Hannah does also do house calls for select patients, based on distance and appointment availability. Please email us at info@mcprescue.org for more information.

Many of our families struggle with food insecurity, relying on government food assistance or community food pantries to feed their families. When that family includes a pet, food assistance for their four legged family member can be hard to obtain. In our own East Garfield Park community, MCP works to address this problem by supplying pet food donations to Breakthrough Urban Ministries' Fresh Market food pantry every month. When families with pets visit the pantry for food assistance, they can now get a hand in feeding their entire family, two-legged and four.

Helping Families

MCP partners with our colleagues Players for Pits, Fetching Tails Foundation, Live Like Roo Foundation, Blackdog All Breed Dog Rescue and Waukegan Police Animal Control to provide free spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations and microchips through the Waukegan Coalition for Spay and Neuter. 2016's clinic served more than 200 dogs and their families!

Collaboration and partnership defines the Best Friends Network, which includes more than 2,000 public and private animal shelters, rescue groups, spay/neuter organizations and other animal welfare groups across all 50 states. Best Friends understands that needs-driven, community-based work is the key to ending the killing in America’s shelters.

MCP is proud partner with the Best Friends Animal Society.
